The piece is titled Problem Reaction Solution after the Hegelian dialectic, an idea that plays a major role in government strategy, particularly when it comes to war, and swaying public opinion in order to gain authority.
I hope that the imagery provokes that feeling of human self sacrifice and the ideas of faith and blind obedience, fear, the duty to do what is "right", and that horrible pain in your chest when you truly realize the agony of the man who is condemned to die and kill for his country under false pretenses.
My heart aches for the veteran who sleeps on the park bench, and the broken families left behind, unable to stay in their homes as interest rates continue to climb, for every soldier praying to god for their safe return to their loved ones, not to mention the thousands of civilian casualties and detainees held against their will with no access to a fair trial, and those of them who are mercilessly tortured. It doesn't have to be that way.
The original piece is white pastel on black paper with red acrylic and water. I took pictures of the process of adding the watered down paint so I could animate it to hopefully get a more intense effect. not as perfect as it could be, but oh well.
Myself and several members of my family are all too familiar with these situations, unfortunately... but I do really love this painting. Not just because it hits close to home, but because of the thought and dedication that went into it. I don't really have the time lately to come on here and comment very much, but I'm really, really glad you publicly shared this piece. Thank you.
This is really beautiful, in a terrible, heart-wrenching sort of way. I love all the shades of gray it makes the red stand out so much and the animation makes me think of a beating heart, like he's watching his life drain away.
I don't know. But I understand how you feel, and I think this is very successful in conveying that feeling that comes in thinking about all of those people and what they have to go through.
Beautiful job. The shading is so deep and creates a lot of emotion. I love the dark eyes of the mask, they feel so windy and sad. The animation was nice as well. You did a very nice job on the heart too. It definitely conveys the feeling you were looking for and it reminds me of how awful this world can be but still, how grateful I should be and how I should seek to help those that must go through this. It is beyond what anyone can imagine. I remember hearing a coworker acting snubbish about a man who had gone through such torture, as if it were nothing at all and it just really angers me, looking at this especially, it is amazing how people can be so blindly cruel and selfish.

I'm really glad you commented on this, and that it does mean something to you- it's not a very popular piece, but usually that's how it goes with stuff like this, it's something people don't want to think about, so thank you so much for your thoughts on this!
